Ateş Tezer, born in 1960, started playing drums at school while studying in Kadıköy Maarif. Then he went to İzmir Anadolu High School and formed the first serious band there. During high school, he participated in Milliyet Newspaper’s High School Music Competition. While studying at Boğaziçi University, he became a student of Timur Selçuk to increase his musical knowledge and learn musical notes. He was accepted to Berklee, one of the most well-known music school after the Boğaziçi University. He returned to Turkey without finishing school and after completing his military service, he went back to the USA. He started following the jazz and hip hop community in New York. In 1998, he released an album with Sarp Maden (g) and Mahmut Yalay (b) in Turkey. He worked with Kerem Görsev for a long time and accomplished important works in the jazz field. In the meantime, he attracted attention by recording electronic music and constantly producing projects. He released a CD called Gazla.
