Evrim Özşuca was born in Ankara to a musical family, listening to jazz and blues while growing up. She started studying the cello with a scholarship from Bilkent at the age of thirteen. She started performing with her first band at the age of seventeen. She attended Gazi University Music Department but quit during her last year to attend Istanbul Bilgi University Jazz Department where she had a full scholarship. She won the grand prize at Nardis Jazz Club Young Jazz Vocal Contest in 2005. As her prize she took part in the International Young Jazz Vocal Contest as a part of Estonia Nomme Jazz Festival. She won both the public jury and grand jury’s top votes. As part of her prize she performed at international jazz festivals in Finland, Estonia and Lithuania. She later performed with Ted Curson in New York and Paris and performed on Ted Curson’s album ”Ted Curson in Paris Live at Sunset Sunrise”. In 2008 she performed with Ali Perret with their project ”Atonal Standards”. She performed the jingle of 20th Akbank Jazz Festival, and also acted in the commercial.In 2011 she was one of the founding members of Jazz Tree project sponsored by Garanti Jazz Green and performed at every stage of the project. Evrim Özşuca has been an active performer since 1993. She performs blues, R&B, soul, funk as well as jazz. She’s been a vocal coach since 2003 and performs regularly with her band Effective in Istanbul since 2009.
